Welcome to Mind & Motion Physiotherapy. Please read below to find more information on my experience, specialist interests and what to expect from me during our physiotherapy sessions.
~ SJ ~
My name is Sarah Spice, also known as SJ, and I am a musculoskeletal and pelvic health physiotherapist with over 17 years of experience. I graduated from the University of East London in 2006 with first degree honours and originally entered into the world of physio within private practice before jointly, and then solely, working in the NHS as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist.
I have been working with NHS patients in Gillingham, Kent for the last 15 years and thoroughly enjoy my role as a physiotherapist and Operations Lead for Musculoskeletal Services.
12 years ago I decided to further specialise in pelvic health and so completed numerous postgraduate courses in this area. I subsequently set up a new NHS Pelvic Health Service for both men and women and this has been a real passion of mine. In recent years, I have also completed a Diploma in Operations Management.
Whilst I continue with my NHS work, I also like to offer some appointments for private patients and deliver educational talks on pelvic health.
In my own time, I love spending time with my family and two energetic Labradors. I am an ex-international Korfball player and currently coach children at both club and regional level.
I am very passionate about raising awareness of pelvic health conditions as they are often issues that are not openly talked about. I enjoy delivering pelvic health talks to help spread awareness of how our pelvic organs (bladder, bowel, genital areas) should function, and I provide advice, hints, tips and exercises for those times when things are not quite behaving as they should. In January 2023, I organised a Run the Month fundraising challenge with 18 amazing colleagues to raise awareness of prostate cancer. Over the month our team ran, walked and cycled our way to over 700 miles whist raising £2,700 for Prostate Cancer UK. A fantastic effort from everyone for such a brilliant cause.
Firstly, it will be really important for me to gain information on what you require physiotherapy for. What are your current issues and what are your goals and expectations? This involves me asking quite a few questions because I like to know the whole story. There are usually numerous pieces to the puzzle for us to acknowledge and explore and this helps me to create the best management plan for you. It is also important for me to understand any medical conditions you have and the current medication that you are taking.
We will work together during your sessions and I will provide you with a combination of advice, exercise and treatment as required. Where needed, I shall provide you with a written summary of all the advice and exercises we have discussed so that you can refer back to it at any time.
Whether you need guidance for a pelvic health or musculoskeletal issue, I will take the time to listen and am happy to answer any questions you may have. Over the years, I have seen many patients who are a little nervous or anxious to discuss the issues they are facing, especially pelvic health complaints. This is completely understandable. I welcome as much information as you are happy to provide and shall offer plenty of support and re-assurance along the way.
If you have any further questions about what to expect, please feel free to contact me via phone or by using the form below.
At present I offer home visits, telephone consultations and group talks.
